Based on the theory of elastic dynamics, multiple scattering of elastic waves and dynamic stress concentrations in fiber-reinforced
composite are studied. The analytical expressions of elastic waves in different regions are presented. The mode coefficients
of elastic waves are determined in accordance with the continuous conditions of displacement and stress on the boundary of
the multi-interfaces. By using the addition theorem of Hankel functions, the formula of scattered wave fields in different
local coordinates are transformed into those in one local coordinate to determine the unknown coefficients and dynamic stress
concentration factors (DSCFs). The influences of the distance between two inclusions, material properties and structural size
on the DSCFs near the interfaces are analyzed. As examples, the numerical results of DSCFs near the interfaces for two kinds
of fiber-reinforced composites are presented and discussed.

A fast multipole method (FMM) is applied for BEM to reduce both the operation and memory requirement in dealing with very
large scale problems. In this paper, a new version of fast multipole BEM for 2D elastostatics is presented and used for simulation
of 2D elastic solid with a large number of randomly distributed inclusions combined with a similar subregion approach. Generalized
minimum residual method (GMRES) is used as an iterative solver to solve the equation system formed by BEM iteratively. The
numerical results show that the scheme presented is applicable to certain large scale problems.

A two parameter asymptotic analysis is employed to investigate some unusual long wave dispersion phenomena in respect of symmetric motion in a nearly incompressible elastic plate. The plate is not subject to the usual classical traction free boundary conditions, but rather has its faces fixed, precluding any displacement on the boundary. The abnormal long wave behaviour results in the derivation of non-local approximations for symmetric motion, giving frequency as a function of wave number. We find closed-form solutions for axisymmetric plane strain deformations of a functionally graded circular cylinder comprised of an isotropic and incompressible second-order elastic material with moduli varying only in the radial direction. Cylinder's inner and outer surfaces are loaded by hydrostatic pressures. These solutions are specialized to cases where only one of the two surfaces is loaded. It is found that for a linear through-the-thickness variation of the elastic moduli, the hoop stress for the first-order solution (or in a cylinder comprised of a linear elastic material) is a constant but that for the second-order solution varies through the thickness. The radial displacement, the radial stress and the hoop stress do not depend upon the second-order elastic constant but the hydrostatic pressure and hence the axial stress depends upon it. When the two elastic moduli vary as the radius raised to the power two or four, the radial and the hoop stresses in an infinite space with a pressurized cylindrical cavity equal the pressure in the cavity. For an affine variation of the elastic moduli, the hoop stress in an internally loaded cylinder made of a linear elastic isotropic and incompressible material at the point is the same as that in a homogeneous cylinder.
